One of the gifts Rachael, our founder, left the field of education was her insight regarding the “Teaching Presence” — those aspects of teaching that go beyond curriculum, strategy, and technique and emphasize who we are, how we express ourselves, and how we can connect with young people.
The purpose of the Rachael Kessler Fund is to support PassageWorks’ Faculty to develop and express the fundamental insights of the “Teaching Presence” with educators across the U.S. Our goal is to raise $100,000 to develop a powerful and effective national team of faculty dedicated to supporting educators.
We can have the best curricula available, train teachers in technique and theory, but our students will be unsafe and our programs hollow if we do not provide opportunities for teachers to develop their own souls, their hearts, their own social and emotional intelligence. ~ Rachael Kessler on ‘Teaching Presence’
Connecting a Network of Educators for Collective Impact
Since the publication of Rachael’s book, The Soul of Education, PassageWorks has developed an experienced network of faculty, staff, board, advisors, and colleagues. One very important part of that network is the PWI Faculty team — currently 19 career educators who work closely with our full-time staff to lead and facilitate courses and school-based programs, and develop publications, courses, and curricular resources. This team approach is a core strength of the PWI business model. By collaborating with experienced educators from all over the country, we continue to develop richer and more effective content and strengthen our connections to the field.
