Who We Are

PassageWorks has been a pioneer in recognizing and responding to critical needs now demonstrated in a growing body of research.  Essential components of student resilience and future success include:

  • supporting students during critical transition years;
  • supporting teachers with the structures and methods that “personalize” the classroom and school environment;
  • promoting academic success and school safety through teaching methods that work constructively with the emotional and social development of students.

The mission of the PassageWorks Institute is to motivate, prepare, and support educators to implement its proven model for nurturing the inner lives of students and teachers.

The vision of the PassageWorks Institute is of a world in which all young people are nurtured in their search for meaning, deep connection and integrity, building character and excellence in ways that foster compassion for themselves and for the people and world around them.

By “inner life” we refer to that essential aspect of human nature that yearns for deep connection, grapples with difficult questions about meaning, and seeks a sense of purpose and genuine self-expression.

"The principles and practices in PassageWorks are not just applicable to teaching, but they apply in all areas of life... PassageWorks has relevance to me as a parent, a friend, a wife, a daughter, as a human being; and as a teacher as well."
