PassageWorks offers a variety of professional development and consulting options.  If you cannot attend a regional Foundation Course and/or would like to explore setting up a Foundation Course at your school, please contact us to discuss our Customized Professional Development options.

  • Our Customized On-Site Foundation Course (22 hours) is tailored to meet your school’s specific needs and population of teachers. Methods learned in this course prepare participants to implement each of our K-12 social and emotional learning/transitions curricula and provide tools that educators can integrate into any classroom or content area to enhance student engagement, build community, and improve academic outcomes. In addition, this customized course offers faculty members the opportunity to strengthen collegial bonds and build community.

"PassageWorks was an essential part of me becoming a member of Doyle Elementary from the get-go. I hadn’t even spent a day teaching with this staff, and already, I felt like a member of the Doyle family. I couldn’t have done that without PassageWorks. It was a great “ice-breaker” for me as a new teacher. I think that schools should have this kind of thing more often. I am very thankful to have a principal who cares enough to implement such a program in our school."  -Second Grade Teacher, Doyle Elementary School, East Prairie, MO

  • Our Follow-Up Professional Development offers faculty the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the PassageWorks model and experience new PassageWorks activities. Follow-up professional development includes a troubleshooting and classroom management component to support teachers with challenging classroom situations. Advanced trainings also address the practice of council, working with closure and grief, protocols for strengthening professional learning communities, stress management, the “teaching presence,” and the spiritual dimension of leadership. Additionally, follow-up professional development incorporates our “continual improvement model” of service, in which feedback of teachers, students and administrators is integrated into the overall implementation plan. PWI consultants collaborate with school leadership teams to provide this ongoing professional development on an individual or group basis through reflection and dialogue via telephone, email or site visits.
  • PassageWorks Faculty Introduction:  This two-hour presentation and experiential workshop gives faculty an overview of the PassageWorks model; explicates its rationale based in brain research, learning theory and resiliency research; and offers an experience of some of our core practices and principles.
  • PassageWorks Workshop:  This four hour workshop provides a more in-depth overview of the PassageWorks model and provides activities for community building amongst faculty members.
  • PassageWorks Keynotes:  These one or two hour presentations focus on a variety of topics and themes related to social-emotional learning, transitions and school-based rites of passage, substance abuse, and the “Soul of Education.”

“Rachael Kessler has not only done valuable, groundbreaking work and is a skilled writer, but she is also an excellent speaker. Her keynote address on “The Soul of Education” was articulate, practical and filled with warmth and wisdom. Participants—both parents and professionals—were inspired by both her keynote and follow-up workshop.”  -Rahima Baldwin Dancy, author, educator and conference organizer

  • Ongoing consultation:  Hourly PassageWorks consulting (phone or on-site) can be arranged on an as-needed basis for faculty, administrators, or leadership teams.  Additionally, consulting is an integral part of our implementation program for schools utilizing our curricula.

*Note:  Our Foundation Course is a pre-requisite for the implementation of any of our curricula
